Ma’ariv [niggun]
Led by Gedaliah Levin
Some say this melody is sung by the angels in heaven, but wherever it originated, it is a soul-stirring sign that the holiest days of the year are upon us. We chant this beautiful melody to allow people to gather themselves and focus for the “Barchu” call-and-response prayer, which ushers in the Festival. While the word “Barchu” is a call to bless God, it is also a “drawing down” of the Presence of Hashem into that moment and into our lives (Reb Chaim of Volozhin, Nefesh HaChaim)
