Tik’u Vachodesh – תקעו בחודש

Led by Rabbi Noam Sendor & Lawrence Meyerowitz

“Sound the shofar on the New Moon, on the appointed time for the day of our festival” (Tehillim 81:4) This verse is sung immediately before the Kaddish of the Maariv (evening) service on Rosh Hashana. Even those communities that normally do not insert verses at this point on other nights out of concern that it would constitute an interruption sing this verse on Rosh Hashana. This is because this verse references the Shofar which will herald the ultimate redemption, may it be speedily and in our days, and as such it is considered to be consistent with the larger theme of redemption discussed in the Maariv service.
